The issue begins with Logan stumbling into Meltia Garner’s apartment bloodied and battered. The readers then flashback to a day beforehand and are shown Nightcrawler and Psylocke, who have come looking for Wolverine. We get to find some very witty dialog between Logan’s potential girlfriend, Melita, and Betsy here. So the two X-men go looking for Wolverine in Dr.Rot’s Insane Asylum, and find an cavalcade of jarred brains. As the inmates begin to riot Wolverine makes his way to Dr.Rot, it seems as if he’s had enough of this mind manipulation. Wolverine promptly guts Rottwell who actually manages to fight back against our adamantium coated mutant. While the mastermind M.D. manages to escape there certainly seems to have been a great deal of bloodshed and destruction. In the closing panels it is actually implied that Wolverine may have a trigger command similar to that of X-23’s trigger scent. A few days after the asylum incident Dr.Rottwell gives Logan a call on the phone, uttering something sinister. After hearing this, Wolverine seems compelled to kill. It’s safe to assume that this is more than a serious development.
Let me applaud Writer Jason Aaron for his work over the past few months. It’s safe to say that Wolverine has been overexposed in the past year and bringing a fresh look and feel to the character with respect for the previous canon is commendable. I really hope that this book becomes the Wolverine mainstay after Origins departure. It’s clear that the assembled team has a good grasp on the character and atmosphere they want to bring to the title.
