This issue starts off with a bang as we are introduced to a new threat to the beloved Utopia and the return of Magneto! However the Master of Magnetism has not come looking for a fight, instead he has come looking for the leader of the X-Men - Cyclops. What is Magneto’s ultimate motivation, why has he  truly returned ?

The most important thing about this issue is Magneto, without a doubt most fans are picking up this issue to find out what kind of role the X-Men's greatest adversary will play in these troubling times. It turned out that he did indeed catch the X-Men off guard, but  in an enitrely different manner. He has come to praise Scott Summers for uniting his people in their time of need, something he failed to do in the past. While this is an interesting characterization of Magnus, what I found io be a surprise was seeing the ultimate mutant terrorist kneel before Cyclops. It’s a powerful image that I don’t think many people will be able to forget no matter what happens in the future. Magneto explains that he has been with the High Evolutionary all this time (which ties nicely into Endangered Species, wow that’s a while ago) attempting to figure out the riddle of M-day. While the two compatriots were able to restore Magneto’s powers, there was no such luck in restoring the mutant birth rate. The main threat of this issue is( Scalphunter) John Grecrow’s “crash landing” onto Utopia and and his mysterious employers who are hoping to infiltrate this Mutant homecoming.  While there are so many great things going on In this issue I have one small gripe. It’s that for all the good dialog and intrigue Matt Fraction and the X-team have yet to narrow down their list of members to be featured in the series. Sure not seeing so much Wolverine is good and bringing Charles Xavier back was great, but I think that they are starting to find a comfortable blend (the lineup being: Cyclops, Wolverine, Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost, and Colossus and Beast) of characters to solidify their run on the book. I have been so looking forward to Magneto’s return and even though the issue did give us much in the way of action I feel that Matt Fraction is starting come into his own with these characters and have really enjoyed his work so far. The tone and direction of this book has been simply awsome and I really hope everyobody is picking this up monthly .
